Abstract
This is a comparative study on parenting views among Chinese and Japanese mothers with children under the age of three, especially follow closely their perceptions of children, parenting content, and expectations for the child’s future. Using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), the research reveals both commonalities and differences in parenting ideologies. The findings indicate that perceptions of children foundation of parenting views, which provide a guidance for parenting practices and expectations for their children. However, notable differences exist: Japanese mothers exhibit a strong emphasis on social expectations, while Chinese mothers prioritize academic success, influenced by both traditional culture and modern educational pressures. Chinese mothers in Japan display a hybrid perspective, shaped by both Chinese and Japanese society and cultural background. The study underscores the impact of social environment, cultural values, and individual experiences on parenting views. Given the increasing diversity of family structures and the challenges of declining birth rates, the findings highlight the need for culturally adaptive parenting support policies that cater to varied backgrounds, including diverse families.
